Thandiwe Newton has issued a statement explaining her decision to leave Magic Mike 3 after 11 days of filming.
The actress' representative told The Guardian: "Thandiwe Newton has made the difficult decision to step away from the production of Warner Bros Pictures' Magic Mike's Last Dance to deal with family matters."
The representative also called reports that Newton had been sacked from the project after clashing with co-star Channing Tatum – who is also the movie's producer – as "completely inaccurate." These reports were first published in The Sun, which alleged that the two actors had fallen out while discussing an infamous incident at this year's Oscars in which Will Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock.
Newton has been replaced by Salma Hayek in the movie, which is shooting now in the U.K. with Steven Soderbergh in the director's chair. Meanwhile, Newton fans can look forward to seeing her in the upcoming fourth season of Westworld and hearing her in the animated movie Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, which is set to release in 2023.
