Actor Jim Parsons has decided to end his reign as the leader of the "nerd herd" in CBS's long running hit series The Big Bang Theory, which he elaborates on in this Instagram post. It's been 12 seasons and he's ready to move on, even after being offered a multi-million dollar contract to continue the series for another two seasons.

Fans seem to be divided, with some wanting more and others agreeing it's been a good run. Either way, the decision has been made, and Parsons is already planning his next project.

He's working with NBC to develop a new series called The Inn Crowd, acting as executive producer, reports ComingSoon.net. The sitcom revolves around a resort inn, based in Washington, Virginia, inspired by the 1999 New Yorker article about an actual inn that stirred up some controversy.

The Inn at Little Washington, its proper name, was open and run by gay couple Patrick O'Connell and Reinhardt Lynch. The getaway spot was quite popular, attracting big-name celebrities for some R&R. But, it appears there was some contention amongst local neighbors, who were upset by the couple's ambitious plans to expand.

In the original article, by Tony Horwitz, also entitled The Inn Crowd, he described how the town was split into two camps, "one in favor of the Inn and its business practices," and the other, "long-time residents who oppose the burgeoning power of Lynch and O'Connell and the glitzy tourism the Inn brings to the region."

This year, the Inn celebrated its 40th anniversary, clearly having overcome any initial obstacles. But how? We suppose the new series will help fill in the blanks.

It kind of makes us think of Bob Newhart's show, Newhart (1982-1990), which revolved around the Stratford Inn in Vermont. It was opened and run by a couple, played by Newhart and Mary Frann, who relocated from NYC to a small town of some 1,000 people.

And, coincidentally, Newhart guest-starred on The Big Bang Theory as Sheldon Cooper's (Parsons) childhood idol, Professor Proton. While just that, a coincidence, it does seem like there may be a connection, even if it's just a subliminal one.

Parsons married his long-time partner, Todd Spiewak, in 2017. While there's no word yet, we're very much hoping Parsons not only executive-produces but also stars in the series.
