Hulu's The Handmaid's Tale is everywhere. You've probably seen coverage here at Anglophenia, on TV commercials — and on Hulu itself. A few days ago, the first three episodes went live, and Anglophenia's Sharon Carpenter caught up with the cast at the Tribeca Film Festival, including Elisabeth Moss, Joseph Fiennes, and Samira Wiley, to ask some timely questions.

The downtrodden Handmaids in the Hulu series probably want to be anywhere but the nightmarish time and place in which they currently find themselves.  The story feels like it's set in the past — perhaps the 1600s, based on the garb, language and biblical-type-rituals — but the story, based on Margaret Atwood's 1985 novel, is actually set in the near future.

Surely, some kind of time travel device — a TARDIS, for instance — would come in handy in the Republic of Gilead right about now.

Alas, while it may not be possible for the women of this dystopian world to leap into another less oppressive era, we did catch up with the cast to see where and when they would travel to in the past and future — piggybacking off the recent Doctor Who episode, "Smile," where the Doctor asks Bill just that:

We didn't stop there: Carpenter also asked Moss about her character Offred's total badass tendencies. Her response, as you can see, is pretty BA itself:
