This sounds like a win-win to us. In December 2016, Leonardo DiCaprio bet his Revenant co-star and friend Tom Hardy that the British actor would receive a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination for his role as John Fitzgerald in the frontier film. (Spoiler alert: He did!)

If he lost the bet, Hardy would agree to get a new tattoo — of DiCaprio's choosing — to prove his friend was indeed correct.

Hardy was indeed nominated for a 2016 Academy Award (with the award ultimately going to Mark Rylance for Bridge of Spies), and so he agreed to follow through with his promise, which he talked about at the time with London's Evening Standard.

It sounds like Hardy really wasn't expecting to be nominated, saying in the same interview, "I don't think I ever expected to be welcomed to one of those events. I always felt like a bit of a naughty boy, and I always thought part of me would be like, 'Nah.' And then actually I was like, 'Oh yeah! I'll have a sniff of that.'"

Since then, Hardy has been dragging his feet because, well, in his own words, "It [the tattoo] sucks." It turns out DiCaprio designed the art himself, writing out rather sloppily, 'Leo knows everything.'"

And so, the already well inked star had a teeny request before ultimately agreeing to the new tattoo: "I was like, 'OK, I'll get it done, but you (DiCaprio) have to write it properly,'" he told the daily paper.

We think that's fair enough. A tattoo is forever (unless you call in the laser removal folks), and surely DiCaprio would want people to be able to actually read his cheeky know-it-all words, right?

It's been two years since the exchange between the two friends, and just recently, Hardy was spotted on Instagram sporting the new ink:

We can't make out the entire tattoo, but we do see the word "Leo," and two "LL"s, which could say, "ALL." Looking at other photos of Hardy and his tattoos, this one does appear to be new. Of course, it could say "Paleo," or something like that, ending with "leo"... but, according to Vanity Fair, it seems to be the real deal.

And now he'll have a lovely keepsake from his pal Leo to remember the time they shared together.
