Tom Hiddleston Is Unclear About Loki Appearing in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’

We just posted an update on the forthcoming Thor: Love and Thunder, starring Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman. But, there was no mention of Tom Hiddleston returning to reprise his role as Loki. Nor, was he seen in the official trailer.
It made us think, Loki has been pretty busy with his own TV series over at Disney+. Maybe, he doesn’t have the time. We jest, as Loki is a fictional character, and can be written into any script.
But, speaking of time, in the series Loki is traveling through time which is monitored by the Time Variant Authorities. His timeline may not match up with that of the Thor universe. We’ll let the experts over at Marvel work that out, as it is a bit of a brain puzzle.
We can rely on Hiddleston himself to provide some clarity. In a recent interview with Total Film, he talked about reprising his role, saying, “I’m living in a question mark. It’s all unknown. You know, I used to think that I could predict these things, but I literally have no idea. And I’m not even doing an Andrew Garfield! I just don’t know.”
The movie is in post-production, so that does leave us living in a question mark (wouldn’t he have already filmed his scenes?)
While he may not know the fate of his character, he’s been enjoying the progression, saying, “We made some new, bold choices. Loki goes on a really big, internal journey that felt very new and fresh. And I thought, ‘I would like to explore this kind of story, whether it’s Loki or not. But the fact that it’s Loki is even more interesting.’”
He also talks about the impact Loki has had on viewers: “[Playing Loki] is a source of eternal surprise and delight, the whole journey. It’s absolutely a part of my life now, and will always be. You know, just now in the bathroom, somebody came in, and said, ‘Loki!’ And I said, [indicates to himself] ‘Tom.’ And they went, ‘Sorry. Yeah.’ But it’s what people see.”
That’s a roundabout way of saying, there’s no word on whether or not the God of Mischief will be returning to the Thor franchise. We have a sneaking suspicion he will be, as Loki truly is the sneakiest.
Thor: Love and Thunder premieres on July 8.
Will the next Thor movie be the same without Loki?
