'Torchwood' Star John Barrowman Pays a Poignant Visit to Ianto's Shrine in Cardiff
John Barrowman has shared a touching moment with Torchwood fans by posting a photo of his visit to "Ianto's Shrine" in Cardiff.
The "shrine" is located at a spot on Mermaid's Quay which was used in filming as a secret entrance to the Torchwood Institute. Since the death of Ianto Jones, the character played in the Doctor Who spin-off series by Gareth David-Lloyd, fans have covered it with heartfelt tributes to the departed character.
Sharing the photo of his visit on Twitter, Barrowman wrote: "Out for my walk and nobody knew it was me paying some respect to #Ianto Jb."
In the Doctor Who spin-off series, Ianto's relationship with Barrowman's character Captain Jack Harkness deepens over the first three seasons, making it even more moving when Ianto passes away at the end of season three. Grieving Torchwood fans later petitioned for the character to be resurrected.
Barrowman's co-star Gareth David-Lloyd clearly appreciated the visit, writing on Twitter in response to Barrowman's comment: "I did [know it was you], you woke me up. I was under the bench."
Barrowman recently reprised his much loved role as Captain Jack Harkness in the Doctor Who special "Revolution of the Daleks." To mark his return, we rounded up 10 things we love about the multi-talented performer.
