The trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder has premiered, giving us a first look at Christian Bale's villain Gorr the God Butcher
Bale, who has built a reputation for physical transformation over the years, wears heavy grey makeup and prosthetics to play Gorr, a scarred supervillain with a tragic past who hails from a planet on the cusp of destruction.
On first glance, he looks more than menacing enough to cause significant problems for Chris Hemsworth's Thor, who is joined in the movie by Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Russell Crowe as Zeus, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster and Taika Waititi as Korg. Waititi also writes and directs the movie, which is due in theaters July 8.
So far, the response to Bale's unusual-looking baddie appears very positive. One fan tweeted after the trailer dropped: "Christian Bale been able to shapeshift into any character for any movie for over 20 years. Nobody can compete with that level of dedication."
Another fan wrote: "Christian Bale's Gorr look amazing in #ThorLoveAndThunder. Finally, one of the most terrifying villains in Marvel gets the recognition he deserves." And another predicted: "Christian Bale is about to kill it as Gorr. He looks absolutely wild. This is about to be a banger of a movie."
