If you aren't feeling the winter chill today already, the trailer for Christian Bale's latest film The Pale Blue Eye might just make your teeth chatter.
Set in the 1830s, the gothic movie follows Bale's veteran detective Augustus Landor as he investigates a spate of murders at the famous U.S. military post in West Point, New York. He's helped in this endeavor by a young Edgar Allan Poe, who's played by The Queen's Gambit actor Harry Melling. Incidentally, Melling is the grandson of fellow actor Patrick Troughton, who played the second Doctor in Doctor Who.
Directed by Scott Cooper (Black Mass, Crazy Heart), the very snowy-looking movie is based on a popular novel of the same name by Louis Bayard.
As you may have spotted in the trailer, the film's ensemble cast includes Gillian Anderson, Lucy Boynton, Timothy Spall, Toby Jones and Robert Duvall. It's due in theaters on December 23 before arriving on Netflix on January 6, and definitely looks like one to enjoy with a piping hot drink.
Oh, and if you're fascinated by all things Christian Bale, you can check out his recent comments on why he doesn't consider himself a leading man.
