We just mentioned Colin Firth recently, as he’s set to star in the forthcoming true crime series The Staircase. And, here he is again, with a new movie lined up, taking the lead in Operation Mincemeat.
Inspired by a true story, the wartime drama, directed by John Madden, stars Firth, opposite Matthew Macfadyen and Jason Isaacs, reports Screen Rant.
Set during World War II, the story revolves around two members of British Intelligence, who come up with a plan to deceive German troops. The scheme consists of obtaining a corpse, dressing him as an officer, and planting misleading information on the body for their enemies to find and believe to be true.
Firth is set to portray real-life officer Ewen Montagu, who co-planned Operation Mincemeat.
In the new trailer, we hear Firth as Montagu map out the plan, starting off with, “We’re going to play a humiliating trick on Hitler.”
If this story sounds familiar to you, you may be thinking of 1956’s The Man Who Never Was, based on Montagu’s writing:
In addition to the Anglo favorites listed above, you can also look for Kelly Macdonald, Penelope Wilton, and Johnny Flynn.
Operation Mincemeat is set to premiere in the U.S. over at Netflix on May 6.
At least to us, it’s always a good day when Colin Firth pops up. What about you!?
