WATCH: Daisy Ridley and Clive Owen Offer a New Slant on 'Hamlet' in 'Ophelia' Trailer

Daisy Ridley is switching from Star Wars to Shakespeare...but with a bit of a twist. Her upcoming movie Ophelia follows the story from the Bard's classic tragedy Hamlet, but told from the viewpoint of his love interest, Ophelia.

The just-released trailer introduces us to Ridley's Ophelia as she is falling for the young Prince Hamlet, played by Captain Fantastic's George MacKay. We also see Clive Owen as a suitably menacing King Claudius, Harry Potter's Tom Felton as Ophelia's loyal brother Laertes, and Naomi Watts as Hamlet's somewhat otherworldly mother Gertrude.

It's a visually ravishing affair which really shows off the beautiful countryside of the Czech Republic, standing in here for Denmark, where the Hamlet story is set.

Ophelia is directed by Claire McCarthy (Little Hands) from a screenplay by Emmy nominee Semi Chellas (Mad Men) based on a novel by Lisa Klein. The movie is due to open in theaters June 28.

After that, we'll see Ridley reprising her role as Rey in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which arrives in theaters December 20.

Then, next year brings the sci-fi movie Chaos Walking, which is based on a novel by Patrick Ness, creator of Doctor Who spin-off Class. Ridley's co-stars in this one include Tom Holland, David Oyelowo, Cynthia Erivo, and Mads Mikkelsen.
