WATCH: Emma Thompson in Trailer for New Russell T Davies Drama 'Years and Years'

The first trailer for new Russell T Davies drama Years and Years has arrived, and it doesn't disappoint.

The minute-long teaser gives us our first glimpse of Dame Emma Thompson as Vivienne Rook, a character described as “an outspoken celebrity-turned-political figure whose controversial opinions divide the nation.”

We also meet characters played in the Manchester-set drama by Rory Kinnear (Spectre), Anne Reid (Last Tango in Halifax), Jessica Hynes (Paddington) and Ruth Madeley (Cold Feet).

Look out, too, for Russell Tovey, who starred in the Davies-penned Doctor Who festive special 'Voyage of the Damned', and T'Nia Miller, who appeared in the Doctor Who season nine episode 'Hell Bent'.

Years and Years is set in the near future, in a Britain that “is rocked by unstable political, economic and technological advances.” It follows one family over an eventful 15-year period beginning one momentous night in 2019.

"I’ve wanted to write this for 20 years or so. And as the world accelerates like crazy around us, I realized I’d better get on with it!" former Doctor Who show runner Davies said when Years and Years was announced last June.

So far, the trailer is definitely piquing people's interest on Twitter.
