Florence Pugh (AMC's Little Drummer Girl) is set to star in the forthcoming movie adaptation of Little Women. Lady Bird's Greta Gerwig will direct, with Pugh joined by Emma Watson, Saoirse Ronan, Eliza Scanlen and Timothée Chalamet.

It's the retelling of Louisa May Alcott's classic 1868 novel, which revolves around four sisters as they come of age in an America still recovering from the Civil War.

In the recently released clip, Pugh's character Amy March explains to her well-to-do neighbor (Chalamet) what comes into play for a young woman when deciding on who to marry, i.e. it's not all rainbows and butterflies:

We appreciate that Amy takes such a strong stance on the topic, but we should point out her sister Jo (Ronan) decides to pursue a career in writing. So, even in the 19th century, there was really no absolute on marrying for love vs. security, or... getting married at all for that matter.

There's something about this story that people keep bringing it to the screen. Probably that the topics are still relative today.

We can also look for Meryl Streep and Laura Dern as Aunt March and Marmee, respectively. This is Gerwig's first film after Lady Bird, her award-winning and critically acclaimed debut that also starred Ronan and Chalamet.

Little Women hits theaters on December 25, 2019.
