Happy Valley, starring Sarah Lancashire in the lead as Sergeant Catherine Cawood, kicked off in 2014. The second season followed in 2016.
You can look for the U.K. premiere of the next season over at BBC One on January 1. The series will premiere in the U.S. via AMC+ and Acorn TV, but the exact date is yet to be announced. The anticipation does add to the excitement of its return stateside.
In the meantime, a brief clip has been released providing a glimpse at convicted killer Tommy and Cawood in uniform:

We did say it’s brief. While only a snippet, we can feel the intensity coming off the screen.
In Season 3, Cawood is investigating a murder. In some way, her investigation leads her back to Tommy (James Norton). The seasoned police officer wants nothing to do with Tommy, who raped her daughter, but even so, it doesn’t appear she has a choice in the matter.
The official synopsis reinforces her views, reading: "Her grandson, Ryan (Rhys Connah), is now 16 and has ideas of his own about the kind of relationship he wants to have with the man Catherine refuses to acknowledge as his father, leaving Catherine’s sister Clare (Siobhan Finneran) caught in the middle.”
