The Yellowstone series premiered in 2018, starring Kevin Costner, Luke Grimes, and Kelly Reilly. We then saw an origin story series come out in 2021, entitled 1883, starring Sam Elliot, Tim McGraw, and Faith Hill.
We haven’t been covering the Yellowstone franchise all that much, but now that the Dame of All Dames is involved, it’s on our radar. The story continues with a follow-up origin series, entitled 1923, starring Helen Mirren, reports Deadline.com.
Mirren is set to take on the role of Cara Dutton, opposite Harrison Ford as Jacob Dutton. The original series follows the Duttons and we’ll learn more about where they came from through their ancestors’ adventures.
In the first look trailer, we see Cara unflinchingly wielding a rifle. Like Mirren herself, this character is a force to be reckoned with:
As the title suggests, the eight-part series takes place in 1923 when “pandemics, historic drought, the end of Prohibition and the Great Depression all plague the mountain west.”
If the franchise is new to you, here is a peek at the trailers for Yellowstone and 1883:
Mirren's breakthrough role was as DCI Jane Tennison in Prime Suspect (1991-1995). Ford also appeared on TV in the 1960s and 1970s, including roles in The Virginian, Ironside and Gunsmoke. Mirren and Ford starred opposite each other in 1986's The Mosquito Coast.
You can look for their on-screen reunion in 1923 over at Paramount+ on December 18.
We can’t get enough of Helen Mirren. What about you!?
