WATCH: Idris Elba, Dame Judi Dench, and Sir Ian McKellen Star in First 'Cats' Trailer

The first trailer for the Cats movie is here, and it's giving us our first glimpse of Idris Elba, Dame Judi Dench, Sir Ian McKellen, James Corden, and Taylor Swift, as, well, cats.

Directed by Tom Hooper (Les Misérables, The King's Speech), the big screen adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's long-running stage musical uses something called "digital fur technology" to turn these instantly recognizable performers into distinctive-looking feline-human hybrids.

Rebel Wilson, Jason Derulo, newcomer Francesca Hayward, Ray Winstone, and Jennifer Hudson also appear in the trailer, which is soundtracked by Hudson's haunting rendition of the musical's most famous song, "Memory."

For Dame Judi Dench, the Cats movie represents something of a "full circle" moment. She was due to originate the role of Grizabella (played in the movie by Hudson) in the first-ever production in London's West End, but suffered a torn achilles tendon shortly before opening night. She was replaced by Elaine Paige, whose rendition of "Memory" became a U.K. Top Ten hit. In the movie, Dench plays Old Deuteronomy, a wise and beloved elderly cat who has always previously been played by male actors.

The Cats movie arrives in theaters December 20, which gives us plenty of time to get used to that digital fur technology.

What do you think of the Cats trailer? Are you feline excited (sorry!) for the movie?
