James McAvoy's Lord Asriel is back in a big way in the trailer for His Dark Materials' third and final season.
McAvoy's character only appeared very briefly in the fantasy show's last season, but the trailer points to a more central role this time around. Asriel's mission: to take down the all-powerful being known as "the Authority."
"I am gathering the greatest from every world to help me wage war," he says in the trailer. "They are but one arm of the beast. We cut off the head and the rest will crumble."
Other characters who feature pretty prominently in the trailer include Ruth Wilson's Mrs. Coulter, Dafne Keen's Lyra, and Amir Wilson's Will. There's also a glimpse of Lin-Manuel Miranda's aeronaut, Lee Scoresby.

The third and final season of His Dark Materials is based on The Amber Spyglass, the third novel in Philip Pullman's hugely popular trilogy. It will debut in the U.S. on December 5 on HBO and HBO Max. In the U.K., it will air on BBC One at a date to be confirmed.
