Doctor Who’s Karen Gillan has completed a new movie. She’s teamed up with writer-director Judd Apatow and is set to star in his forthcoming comedy, The Bubble. Last April, Gillan turned to her Instagram to announce, "THAT'S A WRAP!!!!!!!!!! ON The Bubble!!!!!"
It’s not just Gillan, we can look for other familiar faces, including Fred Armisen, David Duchovny, Keegan-Michael Key, Leslie Mann, Iris Apatow, Pedro Pascal, and Rob Delaney.
The Bubble is a movie-within-a-movie. We see a group of actors and crew quarantining at a hotel, making a movie during a pandemic. The movie has a name, entitled Cliff Beasts 6: The Battle for Mount Everest. Filming takes place “somewhere in England,” according to the trailer.
Since they are in a “pandemic bubble,” there are restrictions set in place, like no touching. The group is advised to instead “make sweet eyes at each other,” even being given an example of what that looks like. We did mention that this is a comedy. But, at the same time, the director (Armisen) takes his work very seriously, promising, “This movie is going to make the world forget about all their problems.”
That is quite a lofty statement. You can see if he lives up to this declaration in the newly released trailer:
Their movie may not erase all problems, but the making of it could provide some relief during the hour (and 45 minutes) of watch time.
You can look for The Bubble over at Netflix on April 1.
