We can never get enough of Lesley Manville, and her new movie Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris looks like a real treat.
The just-released trailer shows Manville's title character, humble cleaning woman Mrs. Ada Harris, splashing out on a vacation to the French capital so she can buy a couture Dior dress. However, once there she encounters a snobby sales assistant played by legendary French actress Isabelle Huppert. Even so, this doesn't appear to ruin her trip for long.
Set in the 1950s, the movie seems to have beautiful period details and of course, loads of stunning vintage fashion. Look out, too, for Sanditon's Rose Williams and Harry Potter alum Jason Isaacs in supporting roles.
Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris is based on Paul Gallico's 1958 novel Mrs. 'Arris Goes to Paris. Of course, if you still want to pronounce the movie's name with a Cockney-style dropped "h," we won't object.
Discussing the movie with The Guardian in 2020, Manville said: "It's feelgood. Like a musical, without the music. It's going to look gorgeous and it's going to be a real bit of escapism." Going on what we've seen in the trailer, this seems absolutely spot-on.
It's due to open in U.S. theaters July 15 and then in the U.K. on September 30.
