WATCH: Sir Michael Caine Returns to Heist Movies in 'King of Thieves' Trailer

Sir Michael Caine is back to his "you're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off" best in the new trailer for King of Thieves released yesterday (August 2).

The star of heist movies Gambit (1966), The Italian Job (1969) and Now You See Me (2013) plays Brian Reader, the 76-year-old mastermind behind a real-life heist in London in 2015, which saw a gang of elderly thieves come out of "retirement" to steal up to an estimated £25 million ($32 million) in gold and jewelry.

The ages of the gang members led some to call them "The Over the Hill Mob," making their story the perfect blend of heist movie and the current trend for so-called "silver-haired screen" films that appeal to older audiences.

And like films such as The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2012), Quartet (2012) and Finding Your Feet (2017), King of Thieves features an ensemble cast of award-winning actors, from Sir Michael Gambon (Harry Potter), Jim Broadbent (Paddington) and Sir Tom Courtenay (45 Years), to Ray Winstone (The Departed) and Paul Whitehouse (Death of Stalin).

The film is set to tell the whole sorry tale of the heist, as the thieves plot together, mess up and, eventually, fall out over the spoils. Watch:

King of Thieves is due to open in the U.K. on September 14, 2018. A U.S. release is yet to be confirmed, but with a cast as impressive as this, we think it's only a matter of time until it is.
