Yes, you read that right. A commemorative coin with the profile of the late British rocker David Bowie was sent into space, reports CTV News. Out of context, it sounds a little odd, and even in context, it sounds a little odd... but when watching the footage below, it's actually very sweet.
Bowie, who passed away in January 2016 at the age of 69, was known for songs like "Space Oddity," "Starman," and "Life on Mars?"
While it may not have happened during his lifetime, he finally gets to travel to space, in the form a coin:
The launch, coordinated by the Royal Mint, was initiated in Ashbourne, England. We can see the coin travel over stunning lawns, then way up into a sky we might see from the window of an airplane. But, it goes much further, where most have never been, reaching 35,656 meters and orbiting the Earth's atmosphere for 45 minutes.
Let's continue the tribute with a listen to some of Bowie's space-infused music:
Do you have any aspirations to travel to space?
