Vanessa Kirby (The Crown) is set to star in the forthcoming Netflix movie Pieces of a Woman, directed by Kornél Mundruczó with Martin Scorsese producing, reports Deadline. 

Kirby plays an expectant mother named Martha, who opts to have a home birth, but when her baby dies, it's believed the midwife may be guilty of criminal negligence.

The story spans a year, with Martha mourning the loss of her child, simultaneously balancing a strained relationship with her husband (Shia LaBeouf) and having to see the midwife (Molly Parker) in court.

While understandably devastated, Martha faces her fears, as seen in the new trailer:

Ellen Burstyn (Interstellar) plays her concerned mother, who pushes Martha to stand up for herself. The mother and daughter seem to have different ideas about how to confront the loss and... the blame, for that matter.

Pieces of a Woman is written by Kata Wéber (The Boy on the Train) and will be available for streaming on January 7.
