Lucy Boynton has just landed on our watch list, starring in the forthcoming AMC+ series The Ipcress File. The British espionage thriller miniseries follows spy Harry Palmer (Joe Cole), who is in search of a missing scientist. Boynton takes on the role of Jean Courtney, also a special agent.
Let’s take a look back at some of her earlier work and where she is now:
1. Sense & Sensibility
Boynton starred in the 2008 adaptation of Jane Austen’s Sense & Sensibility as Margaret Dashwood. The miniseries revolves around the three Dashwood sisters. The girls and their widowed mother are forced to move out of their home because of financial constraints and figure out a new normal from there.
2. Inspector Lewis
She then popped up in the fan favorite detective series Inspector Lewis in 2011. You can look for her in the episode “The Gift of Promise” as Zoe Suskin. The episode centers on a retired MI5 agent who writes a tell-all memoir that results in murder. Boynton made a one-off appearance as a guest star.
3. Law & Order: U.K.
Like a lot of actors, Boynton honed her acting skills in Law & Order. In 2014, she took on the role of Georgia Hutton in “Bad Romance.” The episode revolves around Boynton’s character who gives birth in a hotel room and disposes of the baby. She claims it was a miscarriage but evidence suggests otherwise.
5. I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House
In 2016, she stepped onto the big screen, starring in the horror flick I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House. Ruth Wilson stars as a nurse caring for a patient suffering from dementia. Boynton takes on the role of a woman named Polly, a character in the patient’s novel (come to life), which she wrote when lucid.
6. Gypsy
We also saw her in the 2017 series Gypsy. Naomi Watts portrays a therapist named Jean, who struggles with her own mental health issues. Boynton takes on the role of one of her patients, who is an addict and being abused by her boyfriend. Jean goes beyond her job description, giving her a safe place to stay.
7. Murder on the Orient Express
In 2017, Boynton starred in the big picture adaptation of Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express. When a passenger is found dead, everyone on the train is a suspect. Boynton takes on the role of Countess Elena Andrenyi. Just because she’s a royal doesn’t mean she’s innocent.
8. Bohemian Rhapsody
Boynton teamed up with Rami Malek for the 2018 Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody. Malek starred as the Queen frontman with Boynton taking on the role of his love interest-turned-best friend Mary Austin. This was the first time Boynton and Malek worked together, later marrying in real-life.
9. Modern Love
Making her way back to TV, Boynton starred in the 2021 anthology series Modern Love. She portrays a woman named Paula in the episode “Strangers on a (Dublin) Train.” The story revolves around two strangers (Boynton and Kit Harington) on a train who promise to meet up again in two weeks.
10. Why Didn’t They Ask Evans?
Signing up for another Agatha Christie adaptation, Boynton starred in the 2022 miniseries Why Didn’t They Ask Evans? When a dying man utters his last words, “Why didn’t they ask Evans?” those around him are puzzled. Boynton stars as Lady Frankie Derwent, who sets her sights on solving this mystery.
11. The Ipcress File
And, circling back to where we started, you can look for Boynton in The Ipcress File, currently streaming on AMC+. The series is based on Len Deighton’s 1962 novel. Set during the Cold War, British scientists are being kidnapped and held hostage. The story kicks off from there and rolls out across six episodes.
