We love us some Martin Freeman, particularly because of his role in the hit series Sherlock as the level-headed Doctor Watson. We've also been enjoying him as a not-so-level-headed dad in the family comedy Breeders, which was recently announced to be getting a third season. 

With the third season predicted to premiere in 2022, it leaves us wanting more Freeman... now!

Let's press the rewind button and revisit some of his earlier work:

1. The Office

Before John Krasinski took on the role of Jim, Freeman starred as the same character, but named Tim, in Ricky Gervais' The Office (2001-2003), which is the original. The sitcom revolves around a group of staffers working at a paper company, with a ridiculously inappropriate boss named David Brent (Gervais). Tim is the most sound out of the bunch, which makes him kind of the odd-man-out.

Tim doesn't really love working at the paper company, but he has a crush on a coworker, which makes it worth going into the office.

2. Shaun of the Dead 

In 2004, we saw Freeman pop up on the big screen in Shaun of the Dead, opposite Simon Pegg. This was the first of Edgar Wright's Cornetto Trilogy. Pegg takes on the role of Shaun, who is dealing with relationship troubles. But, things get even worse when the town he lives in becomes zombified. Freeman portrays a neighbor named Declan, a friend-of-a-friend.

Freeman also stars in the second and third films of the trilogy, Hot Fuzz (2007) and The World's End (2013).

3. Hardware 

You can also look for Freeman in the comedy Hardware, which ran from 2003-2004. The series is set in a hardware store, revolving around a staff member named Mike (Freeman). Mike's girlfriend works next door at a café. The storyline revolves around Mike and his coworkers dealing with highly spirited customers, who are not necessarily highly informed.

Let's just say, Mike is not the most patient of people when it comes to customer service.

4. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy 

In the 2005 film adaptation of Douglas Adams‘ The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Freeman portrays Arthur Dent. It’s like any other day when Arthur finds out his friend (Yasiin Bey) is actually an alien and the Earth is about to be destroyed. The two just nearly make their escape by stowing away on a passing spaceship.

All is not lost for Dent, though, because his love interest (Zooey Deschanel) has survived. And, she's on the ship.

5. The Robinsons 

Freeman took on the starring role in the six-part family comedy The Robinsons in 2005. He portrays a divorced reinsurance actuary, who becomes bored with his job. He decides to find a better job and a steady girlfriend. His family tries to help him in his efforts, but they sometimes tend to get in the way. You can look for Hugh Bonneville as his much more successful brother.

Looking for a new job is one thing, but looking for love is another. But, it only takes one.

6. Sherlock 

In 2010, Freeman teamed up with Benedict Cumberbatch for the series Sherlock. And, what a team they proved to be. Cumberbatch takes on the title role, playing the quirky sleuth, with Freeman as his right-hand man Dr. John Watson. The two really play off of each other, as both actors and characters, balancing each other out, which is really needed, as they find themselves in some dicey situations.

The modern adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's classic tale ran from 2010-2017.

7. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey 

In 2012, Freeman kicked off The Hobbit trilogy, starring as Bilbo Baggins, who is sent on a journey to recover the hobbits' home in the mountains. And, who's there waiting for him and the trusty dwarves accompanying him? Oh, a dragon named Smaug, voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch.

While Baggins was reluctant, he was also excited, exclaiming, "I'm going on an adventure!"

8. Fargo 

In 2014, the movie Fargo was adapted for TV, starring Freeman as Lester Nygaard. When Nygaard finds himself at the hospital with a broken nose, he meets a stranger named Lorne Malvo (Billy Bob Thornton). He jokes around with Malvo that he'd like a frenemy named Sam killed. When Sam turns up dead, Nygaard confronts the stranger, asking if he did it.

Hmm, maybe not the best idea to call a killer a killer. He might turn on you.

9. StartUp

Freeman takes on the role of a crooked FBI agent in the series StartUp. The series revolves around an entrepreneur (Otmara Marrero), whose tech business is financed by laundered money. There's one small problem, the man (Edi Gathegi) whose money it is... wants it back. Okay, that was an understatement, it's quite a big problem. The business owner and her financer scramble to replace the money.

Meanwhile, Freeman's character becomes more and more frustrated and starts to show it.

10. Black Panther 

Freeman revived his character Everett K. Ross for 2018's Black Panther, starring the late Chadwick Boseman. We first met Ross in 2016's Captain America: Civil War. Ross is the Deputy Task Force Commander of the Joint Counter Terrorist Center. Part of his job description is to escort foreign diplomats upon arrival to the U.S., including T’Challa (Boseman), the ruler of Wakanda, aka Black Panther.

We can also look for Ross in the forthcoming 2022 Black Panther sequel, Wakanda Forever.
