Vanessa Kirby is a rising star and there is no hint of her slowing down, which is why we shared this 10 Things You Never Knew about her back in January. The earlier write-up is a great way to get to know Kirby and have a bit of a catch-up.

She's been racking up the roles of late, set to star in the survival thriller Suddenly and the family drama The Son.

Let's get to know her even better, taking a peek at some of her standout roles:

1. The Hour

The BBC America original series The Hour (2011-2012) centers on the U.K.'s first televised news program and what it takes to get it on-air. Ben Whishaw stars as reporter Freddie Lyon. While he has enough to handle in the workplace, dealing with controversy and fallout, his childhood friend (Kirby) comes to him with some troubling news. He goes out of his way to help her.

2. Great Expectations

Also in 2011, Kirby starred in the miniseries Great Expectations, which follows the story of an orphaned boy, Pip (Douglas Booth), who grows up to be a gentleman with the help of a mysterious benefactor. Kirby takes on the role of Estella, who Pip strives to be like, thinking she is very grand in the eyes of society. But, he may not be seeing all there is to this young woman.

3. Poirot

We saw Kirby in the 2013 Poirot episode "Elephants Can Remember" as Celia Ravenscroft. As the Agatha Christie story unfolds, we learn Ravenscroft's parents' were killed, and she goes to Belgian detective Hercule Poirot (David Suchet) for help, saying to him, "I want the truth." He, being seasoned in crime-solving, replies, "The truth mademoiselle, she can be cruel."

4. About Time

We also saw Kirby in the 2013 sci-fi romcom About Time, opposite Domhnall Gleeson and Rachel McAdams. Gleeson plays a young man who learns he has the ability to time travel. He calls on this ability to find love, and when it doesn't work out the first time, keep trying. Kirby plays best friend to his love interest (McAdams). As the above clip points out, there are no small parts.

6. The Frankenstein Chronicles

In 2015, Kirby did some time traveling herself, starring in the period drama The Frankenstein Chronicles. Sean Bean takes on the role of a 19th century inspector, who suspects a scientist is bringing the dead back to life. We see Kirby as an impoverished noble woman, Lady Jemima Hervey, who may be able to provide insight into late-night disappearances.

7. The Crown

The smaller roles Kirby had taken on paid off in 2016, when cast as Princess Margaret for The Crown. Portraying the real life royal might be considered Kirby's breakout role. She helped bring the story of the British monarchy to life, starring opposite Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth II and Matt Smith as Prince Philip. In 2018, Kirby won a BAFTA for her performance.

8. Hobbs & Shaw

Kirby followed-up the BAFTA-winning role by going the action route, starring in the Fast and Furious spin-off movie Hobbs & Shaw. The story follows two foes-turned-friends, Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham), who team up to fight off a cyber-enhanced villain. Kirby steps in as Shaw's sister and MI6 agent Hattie, who is just as equipped.

9. Pieces of a Woman

From there, Kirby went deeper, starring in 2020's Pieces of a Woman. She portrays an expectant mother, who decides to have a home birth. Sadly, the baby doesn't survive and we see Kirby's character struggle to grapple with the devastating loss. While she decided to have the baby at home, there are questions about negligence, followed by a court case involving the midwife.

10. Mission: Impossible 7

Kirby starred in 2018's Mission: Impossible — Fallout, but it wasn't one and done with this franchise. She is currently working on Mission: Impossible 7 and 8. Kirby takes on the role of The White Widow, aka Alanna Mitsopolis, who is an arms dealer. She follows in her mother's footsteps, also a baddie (Vanessa Redgrave). We can look for her the next two films in 2022 and 2023.
